Places you don't often get a chance to visit
SLATE ISLAND Just south of Terrace Bay stands the remnants of a meteorite strike. The Slate Islands are a unique geological feature. Shatter cone from a strike almost a billion years ago. Boreal woodland caribou and wildlife. For a better description please go to the Township of Terrace Bay's Site. The Superior Rocket Zodiac will be doing regular departures from the Terrace Bay marina all day on the 31st of July 2022.
BATTLE ISLAND Not too far from the community of Rossport lies Battle Island and there we can find a most majestic lighthouse. We suggest you bring water and light snacks for the Slate Island trip and Water and a light lunch for the Battle Island excursion.
I have endless gratitude for Leanne as she kept us safe, taught us more than I thought possible on a 7 day journey and most of all, we had a blast. Since we can't have Leanne on the boat with us now, in any situation I will refer back to the sticker I mounted in the cockpit 'WWLD' (What Would Leanne Do?). If you're looking to learn how to sail or have a proper adventure, Sail Superior will not disappoint.
The water ride on the Zodiac is exhilarating. The remote island sites are spectacular, the forest trails and beach walks will astound you. The engineering feat of the lighthouse will amaze you.
The trip to the Slates does not have too much time in one spot for a lunch spread, a light snack and water are suggested, washroom facilities are scarce.
On Battle Island you will find ample time to spread out your packed lunch, eat, relax and explore. There are outhouses at the Zodiac landing area.
Sightseeing... towering lighthouses on rugged rocky outcrops, pebble beaches, boreal forests, caribou, eagles and maybe much more hiding in the bushes.
Hiking...It's actually a fairly easy trail walk up to the lighthouse at Battle Island, about 1/2 KM easy walk through the boreal forest. On the Slates we may disembark for short explorations but we will not be hiking beyond 50m from the vessel.
Our early bird departure starts at 8 am. with regular departures thereafter. Prior booking required.
Maximum 12 passengers on the Zodiac
